Caring for Veneers
Unlike many other dental procedures, porcelain veneers do not have a recovery time. Once the veneers are placed, you are ready to show off your new smile. Everyday uses for your teeth, like speaking and chewing, are completely unaffected.
Your dentist will explain how to take care of them. In most cases, no special treatment is required on your part. All you have to do is follow the same healthy habits you would with your natural teeth. These include:
- Not chewing on inedible objects like fingernails, ice, or pens
- Not using your teeth as a tool to open things like packages
- Not grinding or clenching your teeth, or wearing a night guard if you do
- Not smoking or using chewing tobacco
- Flossing by pulling the string from front to back between your teeth rather than up and down the sides
Other than that, all you need to do is practice good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing on a daily basis and attending biannual checkups.
